Just say NO to Seattle!

When we moved here (from NoVA) in 2003, we were surprised at how un-rainy it was, and DH said perhaps people from Seattle talk about the rain all the time to discourage people from relocating here. Well, each year it's gotten steadily worse, and this year it has been horrible. It rains almost every day. At least when it snows, you can still go outside and play!

This is why we are considering relocating to Boston!

Pretty gloomy outside today. Felt like it was early evening all day! I can't imagine what it would be like if it was like this for several months! Quick, get those special light bulbs!

Puffle, it *is* like this for several months! No, not this dark really---today is the shortest day of the year. But I never see a marked difference in the time of sunset until early February. And then it's still a solid 6-8 more weeks of very cold, winter weather followed by spring--which is just plain cold, raw and rainy.

I'm sorry to be such a Debbie Downer about the weather. Honestly, when I was a college student here, it never bothered me. But the Blizzard of '78 did me in and I moved to San Francisco right after graduation.

I know Bakersfield is a hot, dry climate and you hated it and I don't blame you. I just hope you aren't too bugged by the winters and springs here. Summer is usually good for the most part, but July and most of August is very hot and humid. September and October are spectacular and November isn't bad either. I'm just getting intolerant in my older age and want more than 2.5 months of decent weather in a year. We all spent about an hour last night shoveling the "1 inch dusting of snow" off our driveway (it was really more like 6").

Greetings everyone,

I just arrived to Western Mass from Los Angeles Wednesday night. All the cars are dirty here. The roads are full of sand. When my dog goes out for a pee, her legs slip through the snow. It was freezing cold today. My face was red and my fingers were numb, but I couldn't be happier. New England is a rugged climate, but I love how the women here are so determined and independent. They let their hair turn gray and they shovel their own driveways. This is what I see when I look outside. Who cares if the weather is miserable. It's gorgeous here!

Can't be in a happy mood all the time I guess! Plus, ever since the first week that we got here I haven't been able to shake a constant cough and a feeling like I still have a cold. Sorry to whine. I'll have my cheese now.

I like the seasons here. And it could be worse. I think that it was in the Wyoming forum that someone commented that their summer was only two months long, and that they grew their own tomatoes and they never had a chance to turn red.

Have you always lived in Ma. miu? In California summer can start as early as May turning 100 by June or July and last through the end of October. I'll take two months of summer anyday compared to five! That is just way too much self-tanner for me.

My one problem with New England winters is Logan. I had a 10:15AM flight on Thursday and we didn't get off the ground until 6:30! We boarded the plane at 10, sat around for a few minutes, and then had to deboard because there was a line for the de-icers. It seemed as though there was only 1 deicer for all of the Delta flights out of Logan! Ridiculous! With a flying phobia, sitting around in an airport watching inches of snow accumulate on the wings was not good for my blood pressure! A few of my friends had cancelled flights and nowhere to go because the dorms closed. All the delays weren't due to the weather itself, but just the lack of deicing machines! Ridiculous.

That said, I've been in Atlanta for 2 days and would be pleased as punch if every last person down here was BURIED with a mound of snow! Nothing makes you miss New England more than leaving it.
