Question Commute from Duxbury?

Hi -

Does anyone have 1st or 2nd hand knowledge of the commute from Duxbury to S.Station/Financial District?

I know the train is 58-59 minutes depending on which line you take in.

How is the drive to Kingston? To Greenbush? (I know one's 5 miles and the other's 10, but 10 can be "shorter" if the traffic moves, for example.)

Anyone here actually do this?

It seems like a LONG commute, but maybe not any worse than from Franklin or Southboro. Well, ok, Franklin's 8 minutes less, but hey, they don't have an ocean!

I don't know which worries me more, living that close to a nuke plant, or the commute.

Thanks for any help.
-K

The commute SUCKS. No other way to put it.

That said, Duxbury is a very nice town. The schools are great too- love how they were designed like a "campus". Very well-educated and well-to-do people living there. I hated living in Mass., but actually liked Duxbury.

I have no idea about the commute from Duxbury...

But... close to nuke plant is instant death... vs commute can be slow and painful... and if the nuke plant do have an accident... Southboro is less than 50 miles away... most likely affected also...

I rather die fast....

Default slow and painful, or over quickly, either way...

Hi -

Well, I think if there's an accident or terrorist attack, everyone in Boston's going to be um, affected.

What my concern is with the nuke plant is the day-to-day radiation that escapes. Like coal-fired power plants, they have "permits" from the EPA that it's "ok" to release a "safe" amount DAILY.

What concerns me is what's a "safe" amount of radiation?

The flip side is, as has been pointed out on another thread, is it's "pick your poison" with environmental hazards, so...

I wouldn't be so paranoid, but with 2 small kids to worry about, it's on my mind a bit.

If it were so terrible, wouldn't all those rich, educated people choose to live elsewhere?

Back to the commute, I think it probably does suck, but does it suck worse than from Southboro, or suck the same?

Thanks again.

My uncle did that exact commute for 20 years. It's not fun, but very doable. The commuter rail station you'll want to take is Kingston in almost all situations. I personally haven't done the drive during rush hour much but I have on pretty much every holiday since I have family in Duxbury and Marshfield and I live just north of Boston. It should take just over 30 minutes if there is no traffic (not including house-to-highway), but it has taken me 3 hours on the 3rd of July for example.
