Question Walpole Country Club

My son will be doing his intership at Walpole Country Club this summer. He is coming from Nebraska where he is learning how to manage a golf course. Walpole Country Club is providing him a place to stay rent free so housing is not a concern.

Is there any one who can provide us with information about the area around Walpolce Country Club?

What about public transportation in the area or will he need his pickup with him while he is there?

What is the general cost of living there?

What areas would be nice for him to go see while he is there?

These are questions that I have at this time and more could come up later.

Thank you all for your information.

I think he will still need the pickup. There is train service to Boston (1/2 hour ride), but no way to get to the surrounding towns without a car.

The cost of housing here is quite high, but if they are providing him with that, then it's not a problem. I imagine most everything else is about the same.

Walpole is a safe suburban town, some parts are even rural. I am very familiar with the Walpole Country Club and have friends that belong there. My husband probably plays there a couple of times a year - although we belong to a different club. Overall, it's a nice facility. They have very good food, by the way. I hope he gets some free meals?

Not sure about the meals he is trying to get more information about that now. Well being rural is not a real big issue. After all what is considered as rural in the Boston area we might call it a urban area in Nebraska. Do you know what a 18 year old can do in the Walpole area? If he gets to play golf there he just might be spending most of his time doing this. Just wondering what else there is to do in Walpole.

If he has his car or other transportation, the beaches aren't too far away. In addition to visiting Boston, Providence, RI is about 45 minutes away.

There is an ice rink on Rte 1 in Walpole. If he likes soccer, he can go to a professional soccer game at Gillette stadium which is a short drive from the country club. In August, he could watch the Patriots practice at the training camp there.

A short drive from Walpole is the Tweeter Center in Mansfield where most major concerts are held. Oh, and there usually is a massive country music concert at Gillette every summer.

It's not a small town, but not a city by any means. Still, there are lots of restaurants and shopping in the area.

What kind of activities is he looking for, other than golf?

walpole is really a bedroom community for boston. You have Rt 1 which passes through town and provides all the malls, stores, dealerships, restaurants ect. but you also have a down town which to me is like the typical new england town center. Never been to nebraska but Walpole and surrounding towns are a very pretty area. I grew up there and having spent some time away and around the country that area is unique. He will be very close to boston and there is a ton of stuff to do there. Living is expensive but since he has a free residence I would expect everything else to be similiar. I am not sure what the laws are but I do not think he would need to switch his license and registration ect...that would be costly too.

Check out the walpole times online and yo ca read a little about the town.

Well one thing that he likes other than golf is Pizza Hut and movies. I do know that going out drinking beer or doing drugs is one of the things that he will not do or get involved with even if pushed by friends. He will walk away and he will not hang around with the ones who are involved in drugs or beer. He is interested in girls, but will not get to serious until after college, anyway that is what he keeps telling his Mom and Dad. He likes all kinds of music from heavy metal to country.

flycessna,

He is only coming for the summer so I don't see why he would have to change plates on his pickup or get a new driver's license either.

He is does not like driving in big cities and Boston just might be a little bit to big for him to drive around in. Guess he will have to just find out and I hope that he does not run into someone or someone run into him while he is out there.

Thanks for the name of the local news paper I will check it out.

He does not need to change his car registration just for a summer job.

No need to drive to Boston - he can take the train from Walpole.

Plenty of Pizza and movie theatres. Also, Patriot Place will have a new 14 screen theatre about 5 miles away from where the country club is located: http://www.patriot-place.com/

Thank you very much for the information. Now he just has to make up his teenager mind if he wants to drive out there or fly. I hope he wants to drive so that we can take my bike. Then I can have a nice ride back to Nebraska after I make sure he is set up at Walpole.
