It's distinctly different from the South Shore. It's a conscious rebranding of the Fall River/New Bedford area. It was intentionally done to sort of hide any stigma associate with either (both) of those cities.

Also just way easier to write than the Fall River-New Bedford area. I don't use the term when speaking, but writing is just more convenient.

Back in the 90s there was similar talk of renaming Lynn (city of sin), to "Ocean Park".

Was there any actual PLAN along w this or continued rhetoric per usual?

Except everyone KNOWS "south shore" MA and "south coast" MA are very different.

Go big or go home. (ie, Olde Salem Village = Danvers)

I like "Little Portugal" and "New Portugal."

Blasphemy! Fall River and NB are Azorean!

If we're going to rename it should be "the tenth island" or something maybe Quequechan-on-the-Coast-where-there-was-going-to-be-an-LNG-tank...

The way I see it a city should have jobs and frankly you should not have to have a car if you live in a city.
We are losing site of the fact that frankly there is no real gain by forcing everything into Boston and pretending as if that keeps costs low. Boston is easy to get to via public transit but you get so much more for your money outside of it.
In countries with real public transportation, there are both express trains and local trains. With 2014 technology, this can all be electric and automated. The local train sits at the station while the automated electric express train (that runs frequently since it's cheap to run smaller automated electric trains) roars by at 90 mph.

Last time I checked, Brockton was a depressed hell hole with no jobs. Why would somebody from New Bedford commute to Brockton? The jobs are in metro-Boston and you can't get there from New Bedford during rush hour.

South Shore is the Atlantic/Massachusetts Bay down almost to the canal/Sagamore Bridge. You drive to Boston using Route 3. South Coast is towns that border Buzzards Bay and run along I-195 to the RI line. You drive to Boston using Route 24. When television was over-the-air, you watched Providence TV stations, not Boston TV stations unless you had a really good antenna.
