I found out the hard way that fuel lines freeze.
If you keep your tank full, or as full as you can, there is less chance of condensation. When it does condense the water settles below the gas and freezes, blocking fuel to the engine.

I found out the hard way! Waited one hour for a tow in 13 degree weather. I still can't feel my feet lol!

That's awful. I'm sorry to hear about that. My parents always told me "in the winter don't let your gas tank fall below 1/2 full." I always thought it was an old wive's tale.

The Ethanol in today's gas will cause even more problems than the days it wasn't added. The water separates from the gas much more now than it ever did. It really raises heck with small engines with carburetors because it causes corrosion in your pilot jets. If you have a small engine, even dirt bikes, snowmobiles, boat motors and the like, you should absolutely add some stabilizer to your gas at every fill up.

The extra weight of a full gas tank also helps some with traction.

20 gallon tank @ approx 7 lbs per gallon is an extra 140 pounds to carry around.

It is true about the condensation in fuel tanks that is why when you go to store something like a boat or RV for the Winter you should fill up the tank.
The ethanol does cause problems with small engines so I add a fuel stabilizer to all my tanks.

This is an important step even when you go to store yard equipment in MA, especially if you live near the coast. Fillup the tank and add Stabil. On that note, does anyone know where I can find gas stations that DON'T have ethanol? I don't mind driving a while to get it either since I only need to fill up a 5-gallon gas can twice a year.

None in MA. I've looked.
