Hi, we are moving from NY to the south shore for my husband's job. We are looking for the best town for schools, social life, beach access, and a sense of community. Schools are probably our #1 priority - we are looking for more of a science, tech based school and less sporty. Txs!

Hi. I have family in Whitman and the school system is very good. Social life and a sense of community is up to you. It is not that close to a particular beach but within a driveable distance to several.

Welcome to Massachusetts! I think that Hingham may have everything that you are looking for. It is a pretty coastal town with a very engaged population and excellent public schools (some of the best in the commonwealth). There isn't much of a beach (it has a harbor) but you are close driving range to beaches in neighboring towns. Cohasset and Scituate are great places as well but are further from the city if that matters to you. Good luck

Hingham and Duxbury sound exactly what you are looking for.

Welcome to Massachusetts! I'm not a huge lover of the South Shore (or really living by the shore in general) but if I had to live down there I think Hingham has a nice blend. Of everything you've mentioned you're looking for.

Best means high real estate prices as well as good schools. Duxbury does not get much respect on here but the schools are good and my brothers kids had a happy childhood here, along with their cousins. But it's costly to buy there.

For Norwell and Hingham, stay in each place in a hotel over a weekend and see what you think of the vibe. I wouldn't like the atmosphere in either town (or in Scituate or Cohasset) 24/7. With global warming, I am thinking off the direct coast is also most prudent for a long term investment.

I love Marshfield, which was hammered by Sandy, I think. And prices have gone down on the homes. But I wouldn't move there now. I have been thru this in FL and Marshfield will be paying sky high wind storm insurance premiums very soon.
