Day Trip Skiing Suggestions? (Boston, Milton: ski resorts, homes, buying)

Me and some friends are planning to head out a Friday for skiing, and I was wondering if anybody has any tips on ski resorts that are an easy (no more than two hour drive) day trip from Boston. Thanks!

Stockholmaren, there are the Blue Hills right in the Boston area. They are located in Milton, right off of Rt 128.

I think you want a mountain instead of a hill... right?

For hills... Blue Hill, Nashoba.

For real close... MA, Wachusetts

Then many goes to NH, Maine or VT. Many are within 2 hours. I don't ski... so someone can chime in the ski resort they like.

This gives you some idea the number of trails and height of each resort when you click on the state.

definitely try Wachusett: Wachusett Mountain

It's actually much nicer than I thought it would be- beautiful area- nice drive....about an hour and 15 from Boston at most..

Loon, Waterville, Sunapee, Whaleback, Gunstock, Ragged, Pat's Peak, Wachusetts.

Those are all within 2 hours. The longer you're willing to spend driving the better the skiing is going to be. Loon and Waterville are a full 2 hours. 3 hrs would give you Killington, Sunday River, Sugarbush (or loaf, I think the VT one is a little closer than the ME one), Mt. Snow. Cannon & Bretton Woods are prob. like 2 1/2. But anything over 2 is a hassel for a day trip so I think you have the right idea.

Sunapee and Gunstock were always favorites of mine when I lived in Boston. Many people go further north to the larger ski areas. I seemed to get more ski time at Sunapee and Gunstock.

I'd recommend Loon and Waterville. Wachusett would be good if someone is inexperienced, Blue Hill is good for complete beginners.

Be prepared for bitter cold weather, mostly icy conditions, long lines, short lifts and even shorter runs down the hill....uh mountain.

It's a bit better the further north you go but all in all it's disappointing compared to the West Coast and Rockies. I just haven't been able to summon up much enthusiasm for skiing here since relocating back from the Pacific Northwest.

My kids love it though and their favorite close-by is Wachusett.

Hey... we don't have 7000 ft mountains... only 2000ft hills... and even less at Wachusett. (in any case, many Colorado resorts have long lines too... I heard Utah has best skiing)

My friend, a serious skier never buy ski ticket at Wachusett. He just walk up and ski down (need strong legs.) He saves money so he could ski in Europe.

Wow, you can do that and not get caught for not buying a ticket? My kids would do that in a heartbeat! Especially at Blue Hills, Wa-wa-wachusett and some other close-in areas.
