Hi! My husband and I just bought a house in Fiskdale and were hoping to get more info about the area. We really lie to hike, bike, and run and heard there are good trails close by. Any community events where we can meet people? Any info would be greatly appreciated!

More specifically what is around the area for grocery stores, shopping, gyms/fitness centers?

Glad you found a house!! I was wondering where you would end up. Congrats!

Stop & Shop would be my go to store if I lived in Sturbridge. Market Basket in Oxford is a good choice, but may not be the most convenient for you.

Wells State Park is nearby in Sturbridge and has some decent trails. There's also the one at Greenbriar in Oxford right behind the high school, my old stomping grounds from when I ran cross country there. I held the school record for almost a whole year. Yes, it was a brand new course at the time , so no big deal. (Ok enough of me... I'm starting to hear Springsteen in my head...LOL) They lost a little bit of it when they built the new building 10 years or so ago, but there are some pretty cool paths there. It's mostly pine woods, and some of the paths can be a bit narrow and have a lot of roots, but hey that's real cross country, right? The Central Mass Striders have a ton of races, and many very low profile small weekly races through the spring and summer months. I used to do one in Dudley once a week. Sometimes only 10 - 15 people would show up, but there was a lot of camaraderie.

I don't know a lot about grocery stores. My parents swear by Market Basket, and I'm pretty sure there's a Stop & Shop in Sturbridge.

OP: There are not many posters here from the southern Worcester County area, but we'll do our best. Congrats on your new home! You picked a great town!
