Hi all,
I am living in Bedford, MA but got a new job in Franklin, MA. What's the best route for commuting. I can either go 128S and to mass pike west and go I495S or I can take Rt3 to I-495. The latter is 10 miles longer. I just moved here. Really have no idea which way I should take. Could you help me? Thanks a million. ![]() |

Well, the best solution is to try both and see which one is shorter from a time perspective.
However, IMO, 128S to Mass Pike W will be the best. You will be going against traffic and should have little issues. I believe 128S should be ok, certainly much better than 128N during commuting hours. And Pike W will be a breeze. Good luck. let us know what you decided. |

Thanks for the information. I am a little bit concern 128S during the morning rush hour between Burlington and Mass Pike. Someone told me it is like a parking lot.

It is, it is. I go on Rt. 2 West every morning around 7:30a, and it appears extremely congested going south on 128. I'll bet there's a lot of New Hampshire plates in the crush, too.
Is it necessary that you live in Burlington? I think it's a pretty bad commute during normal business hours no matter how you go. Sorry. |

Thanks.
I have to stay in Bedford. That's why I am thinking about going RT3 N and to I-495 S. Is that feasible? Thanks. |

The stretch on 128 is 9 out of about 40/45 miles, and the Pike would be another 17.5. That's 27 miles, about 60% of the trip.
The Pike would be quick. The question is whether the traffic is so much worse on 128 that it makes 26 miles on 128 and the Pike take longer than 36 miles on Rte. 3 and 495. The commute from where 495 hits the Mass. Pike is the same either way. My guess would be no, but I may underestimate the nightmare of 128 South. Does anyone have info on 495 between Rte. 3 and the Pike? If that's also slow there's not much point in going the long way. |

It's crowded, but I don't think anything is as bad at 128 South, really.
