Default Housing in Northampton

I am thinking of taking a job in Northampton, MA and I am interested in information about apartments. I am wondering what is typical rent for a more modern 1 bedroom apartment (read: washer/dryer in apartment, remodeled kitchen and bath, parking, etc.). I would like to be in the downtown Northampton area as I will be working at Clarke School for the Deaf and would like to be able to walk. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

I live not too far from there. It is a great location, but pretty expensive compared to what I expected from the area and "modern" seems questionable in terms of lots of the rentals. Northampton seems to be the Manhattan of the area, lots of restaurants and things like that, and also subsequently more expensive rents. My first floor of a small house, one bedroom apt. is 1150 plus utilities (which can be 60 electric, 200 winter gas). And then trash isn't included. Though I like the place, I am planning to move because the combined costs add up to too much given my other expenses.
I have kept my eyes on the rentals and I think Craigs List etc. 1000 plus. If you split rent with a partner better, if alone 1000-1200 maybe for a nicer place.
OF course, it all depends on what you want. I too teach, and don't want to live with Umass partying next door etc. as can be the case in nearby Amherst. Craigs List can give you pretty good info about the costs of rent as well, just by browsing.
