Some think it is getting too expensive housing wise, usually the natives who have been there a long time.

I think that the eastern parts are quite nice up towards 116 (i think that is the right road ), i have heard OK things about the schools but some complain that they are starting to see influence from Chicopee.

Great towns to live in that general area are Ludlow, Belchertown, Agawam, Southwick, Easthampton, Hadley, Amherst and Granby.

All homes must pass a Title V septic test before sale to protect the buyer from buying a home then having to dump 10K in a septic right off the bat. Beware of older houses as they can often fail. Be sure to rind a good realtor and a GOOD home inspector. Lawyers are mandatory for home closings last I knew, usually the fees are under 1K.

They are putting in a lot of new housing in Belchertown, Granby and Ware. South Hadley has less room for new housing, though the north and eastern areas are less congested and there is room to grow. It is generally a nice place to live, but there are others that are nice as well.

The schools to stay away from in that area are Springfield and Chicopee...Westfield schools were having some issues when I lived there 2 years ago. Belchertown schools are known for being really good.

I love South Hadley - went to college there. But it's MUCH more built up than it was all those years ago. Still, there is a small-town feel to the place.
