I don't really know enough about either, but history suggests:

Plymouth/Salem

Also, Norwood probably isn't considered the South Shore.

I will also try:
Swampscott - Scituate
Plymouth - Peabody
Hull - Gloucester

I think that Duxbury is more like Manchester by the Sea

Also, is Marblehead more like Hingham or Cohasset?

Another question: is 1A worse than 3?

Well, Plymouth might be a better place for tourists, but I do not see how Plymouth is so much different than Peabody for families.
OK, maybe Plymouth is more similar to Salem...but Salem is not that different than Peabody either...

Someone paired Swampscott and Scituate together. Do others think this is an accurate pairing? Isn't Scituate more upscale?

My attempt:

NS: Revere
SS: Less nice parts of Quincy

NS: Swampscott
SS: Nicer parts of Quincy and Braintree

NS: Marblehead
SS: Hingham

NS: Nahant + Winthrop/2 (like that comparison)
SS: Hull

NS: Manchester-by-the-Sea
SS: Cohasset

NS: Ipswich
SS: Scituate

NS: Either Newburyport and Salisbury combined, or Gloucester and Rockport combined
SS: Plymouth, it is a huge town

NS: Saugus
SS: Weymouth

NS: Lynn
SS: Brockton

NS: Stoneham
SS: Randolph (sort of)

NS: Georgetown
SS: Plympton

Salem has no comparison on the SS.

Can't think of any NS equivalents of Hanover, Marshfield, Pembroke, Abington, Whitman, Hanson, etc.

Or Danvers and Beverly on the SS.
