So, if the majority of refugees do not subscribe to the ideology of death to infidels and female subjugation, (of which, there is no way you can be sure), a minority is acceptable to you.

Fabulous. When are you taking in some refugees into your home? How many and have you let the local authorities know?

Irish had their own thing which was offensive, which was not being Christian as Catholism was seen as something else.

Yes, the Irish immigrants were subject to real instances of racism and discrimination, etc.
Yes, the Irish were. And they did not subscribe to this jihadi ideology.

Yes, we should treat people as people. Different refugee groups will indeed have different concerns. The Hmong of Cambodia largely settled in Minnesota have some different issues than the Nigerians that were settled in Vermont. The great thing about the Syrian refugee issue is that they are largely much better educated than most refugees.
If you want to ignore CIA Director Brennan and FBI Director Comey, that is your call.

America has been a beacon for the tired and weary over the past 5 centuries.... But now those tired and weary want to come and destroy us from within so we give up more of our freedoms. Look at Minnesota with the Somalian Muslim population it is the number one recruitment grounds for terrorist in America...

we can't even take care of our OWN people... but, we'll take on 10,000 "refugees" without doing the proper security checks. I love how quickly people seem to have forgotten the events of 9/11. We are being invaded by an evil cult that literally wants to destroy us all. It's bad enough our "president" is (willingly and happily) letting this happen. But, it's absolutely pathetic that so many Americans are defending this move. Welcome to America: Where we put the needs of foreigners, terrorists, and illegal aliens ahead of our own citizens.

You will reap what you sow liberal America...and your grandchildren will hate you for it.

I agree with you. Except that evil cult is not trying to invade us. It's already here, born and bred. They're called the extreme religious right wing.

Can you provide an example, please?

Tons to list. But we can start with these I suppose. Google is your friend.

10 of the Worst Terror Attacks by Extreme Christians and Far-Right White Men | Alternet

This one has a comparison list.

https://www.rt.com/usa/269506-americ...attacks-study/

The Rise of Violent Right-Wing Extremism, Explained | Mother Jones

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/25/us...reat.html?_r=0

And not mention all these "militias" forming all over the country (i.e Oath Keepers)

The scariest part is, these people are allowed to legally buy as many guns and ammunition as their wallets allow. And there is nothing we can do about it.

Perhaps Governor Baker's views in this matter were formed from his Harvard experience:

Harvard article from 1938 shows undergrads were opposed to Jewish refugees

Seriously? Is this a valid argument? The (Western) world has evolved, most people advocate for and support the refugees. The Western world is more tolerant overall. Nobody really cares about the political or religious beliefs of the people who would like to come here anymore. Nobody in this country has a problem with the thousands of refugees that want to come, as long as, they are willing to be part of and embrace the ideals of the Western world.
The problem is basically that the so called Jihadists want to destroy the west, do not embrace our ideals and want to created problems.
Since you are raising this issue, I will be blunt and I will say that this whole argument comes down to few questions:
-do you trust the vetting process of the government?
-do you believe that Islam embraces the ideals of the west?
-which is the only democracy and the only civilized nation in the middle east that has embraced the ideals of the western world?
-which countries are still in the medieval dark ages?

Obviously, we all have our own responses on these questions.
But please do not generalize by saying that those who are skeptical about accepting Syrian Refugees are basically against all refugees and against "what we as Americans stand for"...
And please, do not polarize this anymore, especially by bringing back the ghosts of the past...

yes, they do support the refugees, who are willing to embrace the ideals of the Western world. Nobody is against them. But nobody wants the Tsarnaevs in their backyard. It is as simple as that.

It's pretty much the idea of one person ruining it for the rest of them. That goes for so many other things.

I'm sure most of the refugees streaming into Europe genuinely do want help, but it will be forever tainted by the fact that ONE terrorist did manage to sneak into Europe and kill people. Now that is forever on people's minds and will influence their judgement.
