Wow, I never thought of it that way! But you'd have to eat that boiled turnip, too, ya know

Neither have I. I've heard we have a "twisted" sense of humor (which I can agree with), or a sense of humor that's often times not politically correct (have you seen family guy?), but never "humorless."

Perhaps it's our dry/sarcastic sense of humor that's misinterpreted by some?

That's what I'm thinking. I know I have an incredibly dry/ sarcastic sense of humor.

My parents are snowbirds in FL and my dad has that sarcastic Boston wit. He often chats with service people and when he attempts to make a joke that any Bostonian would find hilarious, they either don't laugh or think he's being mean.
I don't know how anyone can think Bostonians are humorless. A lot of great comedians are from MA.
I find Bostonians and NYers to be a lot more friendly in a REAL way than other parts of the country. I hate the phony crap down South. I held the door open for a lady in GA and she said "God Bless You" and I said "I didn't sneeze". A "thank you" would have sufficed. I don't believe in throwing God's name around thoughtlessly nor forcing my religious beliefs on others, but then again that's the New England 'MYOB' ethos.

Haha. I agree, I could not live with the phony niceness. I find plenty of people in NE to be nice, just not in an over-the-top way.

I was scratching my head over the 'humorless' comment, myself. New Englanders have a delightfully dry sense of wit; I'm rather 'twisted', too. I am now living in the Midwest, & miss my daily fix of DD.

lol...about the untraveled post. I admit it, I have never been out of the country. And I also admit that at this time, I have absolutely no desire to. I do travel a lot though, but it is always to Florida. I can't help it, I love it there. I figure maybe when I am older and have more money, I will want to see more of the world but I am not going to force myself to go somewhere I don't want to just because other people think I should.
I am a creature of comfort. I like doing things I know how to do, and I like going places where I know exactly where I am going. Change scares me. I know a lot of people around me who are like that, so that could be a stereotype. Since I have lived in MA my whole life, I have no idea if the rest of the country thinks that of us. But I am content with being a stereotype. lol
I do think we NE'ers ARE not the most polite people. I admit, I am always in a rush to go nowhere. I don't like chit chatting with strangers in person, I am ok here on the computer. I don't say hello to random people I walk by, and I HATE HATE giving directions. God help you if you ride my butt on the highway, I WILL mess with you.
