Anybody built a dry laid stone wall? Looking for a source for the stones. I need 40 tons, which is roughly 2 large dump trucks

I found this in Salem- Stone Works Stoneyard Stone Products and Landscaping Supplies. They seem to have a good variety of stone. Are you building the wall yourself?

I did it myself, you can do it. I'm lucky cause my property where I built the wall abuts 7 acres of land that were strewn with rocks of all sizes. You might just want to slowly harvest rocks where you can find them. You hire someone & the labor costs are going to be insane.

You are right about that, which is why I was curious. I use a mason who is pretty reasonable and I got a quote for 18K for a 30 foot wall and two driveway entrance pillars. We had him build the pillars only and will probably fence in the rest.

Took me almost 2 years to build the wall up. My wall is about 40 feet. If you are in no rush you can just harvest the stones yourself from various public woodlands, if not you can order a truckload....don't know how much that will run you though.

Northeast Nurseries in Peabody has lots of stone. There is also McVey Stone in Watertown but good luck getting them on the phone.

There are plenty of projects to do when moving in to a new house. Building a stone wall would not be on my top ten list!

Sounds good. Do-it-yourself is better than paying 18k
