There were a couple of threads on this recently. It's tough since the areas most directly accessible to Longwood, other than those in the City of Boston itself, are Brookline and Newton, and both are very expensive. An option might be Natick, where you could get a train into Back Bay station, and then walk a couple of blocks over to Copley and take the Green Line back out to Longwood. There's a 7:56 train from Natick that goes express to Back Bay, 22 minutes. Otherwise the ride from Natick is 30-35 mins.

Looking at different areas to buy a condo/muti-family

Moving to Boston

West Roxbury is part of Boston. You would have to deal with the Boston school system or private school.

I honestly have no idea where Longwood Medical is, but we live in Mansfield (which has a T station) and LOVE it. We searched all the towns around here and have lived in many of them (Canton, Sharon, Plymouth), but none compare to Mansfield. The schools are wonderful, the town is undergoing lots of changes, and there's a new mall off of School St and 140. Mansfield is right off of both 95 and 495 and is right in the middle of both Prov and Bos, which makes it a great commuter location.

We never had Mansfield on our radar but just happened to find a house that fit our family size, and we've been here ever since (we're on our 2nd house here).

HTH!~
