I am moving to Massachusettes in two weeks to start teaching in Lowell. I am commuting from Franklin, MA while I live with my Aunt and look for my own place. As soon as my husband finds a teaching job he will move up with me. Any thoughts about where to look for a place? We prefer to live in a quiet area, but we don't want the commute to be too long. My son is Autistic and bipolar so I need advice about which areas might have better special education services. Thanks for any advice!

Budget?

I'd say Lowell itself, but the special ed aspect of it may require a different community. Franklin to Lowell is going to be a tough commute though, you really need to be on the road early as it's probably going to be 1 hr+ commute time depending on when you get onto 495.

How about Chelmsford?

I know the schools are good, but I can't speak specifically to special ed.

Andover has a great special ed program though it may be too expensive depending on your budget.

Budget will really drive this topic though

I forgot to mention budget. We are trying to be conservative and are looking to find somewhere that will be under 250,000. That is a flexible amount and we are aware that we might have to commute more just to find something in our price range. We are not familiar with the area at all and we're hoping for some suggestions on where to begin our search. We have also looked at living over the boarder in NH as well.
We appreciate any insight people can give us about where to start.
Thank you!

Looks like you could get a condo or small townhouse in Chelmsford for that budget.
