Novarro is the place in Milton youre talking about. I liked the atmosphere but didn't care for the food all that much.

There are lots of places to eat on the south shore...really depends what youre looking for.

Didnt Barbara Lynch's niece recently open a place in quincy? Pizza place...havent heard much about it.

I also like fat cat but there's always a wait whenever i go.

There's a new italian place in hyde park ive been wanting to try...antonios bacaro.

I was going to mention Basta Pasta in Quincy. Love that name. The original is in Cambridge, having seen it on Phantom Gourmet years ago.

Well, its site says "permanently closed." Too bad, as it was kind of cool and upscale in a part of Quincy you'd not expect.

I hope something even better opens -- soon -- but for now, this doesn't look good for Quincy's reputation as a possibly emerging restaurant town. They have had their own Restaurant Week in recent years. It's still a far cry from Arlington and Waltham, right (?), when it should be better as it has a large population compared to those towns.

I know this doesn't help the OP, but just wanted to update the scene in Quincy.

People have mentioned The Fours. What about Stadium on Hancock Street...kind of a sports theme also? Yes, they had the original in South Boston.

Of course, Assembly in North Quincy may be an option, but not sure if they ever have live music.

I had tried trying Fat Cat a couple years ago, having heard good feedback, especially their macaroni and cheese. But when I tried ordering that for takeout, I was told that option is for dine in only. Waaaahhhh...

We're fans of Abby Park and we were excited when Novara opened but we've only eaten there maybe 3 times total. Northern Italian cuisine is different from the red-sauce Southern Italian cuisine everyone knows, and I think that's part of their issue.

Wonder if that's 16C? Friends of friends were raving us about "this new pizza place" in Quincy Center and 16C is the only one I can think of.

We've NEVER eaten there, although one day we will. It's always packed. Then again, it's a small place.

OP, Stadium mentioned upthread is more bar than food. When we were there I automatically thought "townie hangout". Assembly has good food. If you like Asian, Grand Chow in Wollaston is a possibility.

Yes it's called 16C. I have yet to check it out.

There's also a new pizza place in the adams village section of dorchester. Also forget the name of it but they have a nice menu.

Also dorset hall was pretty good. Lots of new restaurants opening it seems.

For a good and fun hangout place that's casual and relaxed and close by to the south, you can always try the Ashmont Grille in the ashmont hill section of Dorchester too. Their burgers are great and the mussels in sauce is really delicious. Fun place for a date I think.

It doesn't have to be only bars and restaurants. Any casual date ideas are great. There's plenty to do in Boston, but sometimes I'm lazy and don't want to spend the time on the T to head up there

Keep the suggestions coming!

Years ago one of my most fun casual dates was playing mini golf at Star Land in Hanover. They also have go-carts there as well as laser tag and a couple other games which escape me right now.

I know not in Quincy but close. How about a ride on the Paragon carousel at Nantasket Beach followed by some competitive fun at the arcades.
