Good choice. Really small, safe town, only five square miles. Schools are decent, and regionalize with Blackstone.

Millville heard taxes high, limited services due to small size. I havent heard Northbridge is the greatest either. Mendon, Hopedale are nice but out of the way. Sutton, Uxbridge, Douglas all sound like the best choices so far. Maybe also N Smithfield, RI.

Sutton is, IMO, the soundest choice of the MA towns. Franklin and Medway secondary only because the commute starts to become more troublesome for both parties.

My criteria: performing school districts, stable home values, access to robust job markets.

Uxbridge and Douglas can be nice, but they're a bit more isolated - the home values reflect this.

Sutton is getting much closer to Worcester than Providence. The further you get from each the more rural, not that Uxbridge is really THAT rural. You definitely want to stick with the 146 corridor.

Uxbridge is larger and has more amenities than Sutton. Schools in Sutton rank higher, though.

Which is why many have suggested it. The housing crash reminded many that buying in good school districts is prudent regardless of whether you have ten children or none - it's a safe harbor, financially speaking.

Actually, Franklin was named the safest city in the country more than once. I just think it's too far out of the way for the OP. Mendon is another excellent option for the insured. It's only 10 minutes from 146 and the Mendon-Upton district has the best schools in the area, followed by Sutton.

Sutton is close to Target! Great schools. We looked at Uxbridge once upon a time. Nice town also.

Commuting on 146 wouldn't be too painful.

South Grafton has good access to 146 as well and has solid schools.
