Default Crime Rates In Raynham?

My wife and I are considering purchasing a home in Raynham. However, upon reviewing some of the city information, we noticed that the crime rates appear to be rather high.

I have family in the area and I grew up not far from Raynham - neither myself nor my local family considered it a high-crime area. We were all actually very surprised when we saw the crime rates.

What are peoples' thoughts on this? Is the data inaccurate? Is it isolated to certain areas (e.g., the dog track)? Any information that you can provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I live in Lakeville (right next door to Raynham) and always felt safe shopping/eating out in Raynham. It doesn't surprise me though that raynham has a high crimer rate (guessing most of it is theft related) since there's the dog track, the ummm... night club on 138 (on the taunton line) and a few other spots where it's a little sketchy (mostly on the main roads). I used to belong to the raynham athletic club but stopped going because a few people had stuff stolen.

If you're concerned about crime you should check out lakeville. We have very little crime (i just checked my town on cd and the index is 65, the national average is 309). Oh and I should mention my home is on the market. Seriously though you should check out lakeville. It's right next door so you have access all the amenities but none of the head aches that come with it (like petty crime).

surfingatwork,

Thanks for the information. What nightclub are you referring to on 138?

Also, we looked at Lakeville briefly, but decided that it was a little to far of a commute to work (I work in Boston).

I used to work in Harvard Square and then South Boston/Dorchester. A lot of times I either took the train or the red line (from Quincy adams). My house is 5 miles from 495.

There's a nightclub down the street from Market basket heading towards Taunton (not sure if it's in Taunton or Raynham because it's THAT close). Oh BTW Market Basket has THE BEST prices but be sure to lock your doors when you're in the parking lot. Now I hardly ever lock my doors at the Stop and Shop in Middleborough.

That must be market basket's clientele. I have to lock my doors at the market basket in Bellingham, too!

and you'd never think you'd have to lock them being across the street from Whole Foods. I'm partial to the store for a number of reasons, one being i'm originally from Lowell and I worked there (when it was called Demoulas) when i was in high school. It was THE PLACE to work. HA!

The prices are great but I have a Wal-Mart sized headache by the time I get out of there!

There's no sizable crime in Raynham, trust me, it's your typical suburban town. I can't imagine anything more than a few people shoplifting from Walmart every now and then and the occasional car break-in. Nothing violent though. Taunton to the south is a different story. Though violent crime is still very low, there's a lot of sex offenders (many halfway houses full of them), petty crimes, domestic type disputes, crazy streetwalkers, fights at clubs and just a general feeling of uneasiness as you walk down the street.

Thanks for the information. That is what we thought. The strange part is that the information that I found said that Raynham had higher crime than Taunton. I knew that it didn't sound right.

Hi
I grew up right on the Raynham line and we did all of are shopping/dining in Raynham and I always felt safe (or just as safe as I feel anywhere). And I am surprised that it says that Taunton's crime rate is lower, because I have a ton of family in Taunton and from the way they talk the crime there is getting way out of hand. I am wondering if what you read was a misprint or not updated. I think Raynham is great, I have been gone from that area for about ten years now, so maybe it is different, the Raynham/Bridgewater school system use to always have a great rep. too.
