I think Stow is a better choice than Littleton. The schools in Stow are much better. Stow is very close to 495, but 290 is about 20 minutes away.

Regarding Stow, we've lived here now for 5 years. I commute into Boston by train from West Concordd and only takes about 45 minutes (compare that to a car which can take an hour). The original intention was that it was going to be a starter home. Schools are fantastic! The elementary and high schools for in the top 20 if not the top 10 in the state. Homes range from the very large and new, to smaller, quaint and quite beautiful. It's very close to everything route 2, 495, and within minutes to concord, acton, sudbury. It's a very small town with very sophisticated feel. More of a feel like a small sudbury or weston. Not even close to being "out there" as most would think. If you're thinking Littleton, Groton or areas west, now that's out there, much, much further. If you want sophisticated, suburban, but unfortunately high taxes, Stow is where it is at. And they're just voting on a new elementary school which will make it more compelling to new buyers, plus it just built a new athletic field with tennis courts, basketball courts, soccer fields. Best hidden choice in Middlesex County I'd say.
