I am new to the area and looking for tips on where to shop for good foods.
Is there a butcher nearby? How about organic and or locally sourced foods?
Where to buy fresh seafood? Any farmers' markets which run all winter?
Shops with good ethnic foods sections?
I know I could just find a Whole Foods, but where's the fun in that?! And besides, I much prefer to support locally owned businesses when possible.
Thanks!
Zayde's Market at Cobb Corner is a kosher butcher. A bit pricier than regular non-kosher meat at the grocery store, but easily the best price on brisket in the area and a great selection of prepared foods and Israeli products.
Slightly OT, but Chinatown also in Cobb's Corner is one of the best Chinese Restaurants in the 'burbs IMO. Also, just around the corner is Crescent Ridge Dairy which is hands down the best ice cream in the state. They also sell meat out of their store although I've been told it doesn't come from the dairy cows on the farm.

Nothing comes from those cows. They are there for show. The milk gets trucked in from Vermont.

That's funny, I was told it does come from their cows and the name of the place they send them off to get butchered which is the same place the meat from our meat CSA was butchered at if I remember right. I felt very happy buying the meat from there, hmmm now I will need to check on that! lol We love Chinatown too!!

I asked one of the kids behind the counter. Most of the people working there are seasonal employees on high school summer break. So, incredibly possible that either the person I asked or the person you asked had absolutely no idea what they were talking about.
Very true @MikePru! I will try to ask again where those cows come from and where they are butchered. I don't want to pay those prices if it's not done how I imagine in my head!
@DM84 I actually find the opposite- I love how they added the Tiny Tot size this year. Dollar something for a big scoop of ice cream. Now we can take all 3 kids there for less than one of those yogurt places.
More power to you if you can split a tiny tot between 3 kids.
1 for each kid I'm generous like that.
