Default Best affordable communities within an hour of Boston

Any suggestions about the best (safe, moderate cost of living) communities within an hour of Boston? Those with access to mass transit would be desirable.

Most towns are safe... cost of living after housing cost + property tax is about the same. The biggest problem with MA is housing cost...

What is affordable? $150K? $300K? $500K? $800K?

The other question would be what time would you be wanting to get to Boston in an hour or less. At 10 AM, you can get to Boston from Southern New Hampshire in well under an hour. At 7 AM, you'd be lucky to get there in two... Timing is everything

Also if you're working in Boston are you going to be closer to North Station or South Station?

JoAnn Smithson is on a distinguished road
Try Kingston on South Shore - train station there plus lower-cost housing. Also Pembroke and Marshfield - you can park at Kingston train station. Train goes to South Station, close to Financial District and harbor. Try to stay away from Rt. 128/I-95 communities - nightmare commute by car.
