Happens all the time on this forum. Look at how many people post links to homes they are considering buying from real estate sites and then everybody jumps in with their two cents about the undesirable assets of the properties. I always feel bad for the owners who have probably made these places their home for many years and think their tastes in decorating are wonderful.

Ironically, Turtle Boys most loyal readership comes from some of these towns.

And there are beautiful parts of some of these areas. Webster has a beautiful lake with forested land within its borders. The Belvidere section of Lowell has beautiful historic neighborhoods and looks nothing like the representation from this article.

My anti-virus software got a ping from that article linked in the original post. Beware.

(of course not going to help 3 pages later)

"" assumed that everyone who lived up here was rich....Charlemont apparently is – an oversized trailer park in the middle of nowhere"

A passage from the article can be considered funny or rude, however it can be Educational.
There is a perception out there of Western Massachusetts as being a series of small little cutesy towns of wealthy culturalists. Especially populated by former New York City resident types escaping urban blight to live in the cultural, natural and culinary landscapes of Western Massachusetts.

To see the reality of many of the Western Ma. towns with broken down shacks, government types walking around and local scenery looking like the Great Depression was still going on is eye opening. Perhaps this is a good time for a reminder of Massachusetts Legislators just giving themselves pay raises like all of Massachusetts is living the good life now.

Charlemont is weird, its next to really nice Shelburne Falls, and quaint nice Heath, but there is something off on it.

One tiny out-of-the-way small town in Western Ma, cant think of the name, not to far from Deerfield anyways, has a barroom that is actually a strip joint. Cant get much seedier than a strip joint in town.

Yeah you can. A lot. Lots of places in this country have strip clubs that aren't seedy at all.

Not my thing, but hardly a big deal.

Im not saying take the thread down but it is rude of turtleboy. The walmart thing is mean too but seems worse to take pics of people in front of their homes and say, ewww look how gross these people are.

The strip joint is Castaways in Whately. It has some funny local nicknames. As for Charlemont, along with its trailer park it also has a cool ski area and two whitewater rafting companies, thus making it a bit of a multi-season tourist mecca. Worth doing a bit more research than Turtleboy and his minions did.
