Default Natick

My wife and I just visited a number of cities here in the Boston area. We really liked Natick. We have two questions for folks on this board. First, as best as you can tell, how long is the commute from Natick to Cambridge (Harvard) door-to-door (either train or car)? Second, are there any negatives to Natick that one might not think to ask about? Thanks in advance for any and all comments.

Driving depending where you are at Natick and hours to travel... between 35-60 minutes.

Riding a commuter train... you have to go into Boston (south Station) and then take the subway back out to Harvard... 70-90 minutes.

Natick to Harvard on the train is rough since you really do have to go to S. Sta. and back out. A better commute would be something on the Fitchburg line to Porter.

Nothing really wrong with Natick other than a lot of stores, which is good in its way but leads to a lot of congestion. It is not as tony as many of the towns around it, but that makes it less expensive and less pretentious. 35-60 mins. by car sounds right. It takes me, without traffic, only about 15 minutes from Natick service plaza by Exit 13 to the Allston tolls. You have to add the time getting to the Pike and then up Soldiers Field Rd to Harvard. But it's often congested in the Harvard area and the Pike will be backed up at rush hour, and you need to park and walk from wherever you park. Parking is pretty expensive if you don't have it through work.

If you drive get the Fast Lane or EZ Pass. Saves time and Fast Lane for commuting is (or at least was) deductible on Mass. income taxes.

This is all helpful, thanks. It makes me think that perhaps Arlington is a better fit. Natick is really nice though...

I live in Natick and have a friend in Arlington. Arlington is better situated if you need to travel to Harvard/Cambridge area.

You will get more home for your money in Natick vs. Arllington, but the commute will be not as convenient.

good luck
