Hi everyone,

We are thinking about renting a place in Lynnfield in the area just west of Main St near the town center. Every time we visit the neighborhood, however, we hear a loud banging sound about every 15-30 seconds. Does anyone know what this could be? My first thought was construction or a firing range, but I don't see any evidence of those.

Thanks!

It can actually be from 2 sources: the rifle range at the end of Symonds Way off Haverhill Street in Reading or from the indoor firing range at Camp Curtis Guild, the Army National Guard camp located just off the Route 129 rotary.

For those who live in that area, a couple of questions:

1. Do you hear the noise when you're inside your home?
2. Does it go all day long, or does it usually stop by a certain time of day?

I grew up in Kansas, so it's not like the sound of rifles going off at all times of day would be anything new to me, but if the noise is always in your ear 24/7/365--or even 18/6/361--well, I'd at least want to think it over.

I've been here for 12 years, can't say I really notice it much.

I think it really depends on the weather and wind direction. There's a rifle range in Billerica in the middle of a residential area. I'm two miles away as the crow flies and I can hear it a few times a year when I'm outside.
