We use RCN plus PS Vue. I'm very happy with it, I need to get a better antenna for watching Phantom Gourmet, but otherwise I'm very pleased.

So glad to see Comcast go the way of the big music industry.

Be careful with RCN. They do indeed use the same tactics as the other big boys. I have had them for 4 years and each year I have to call and negotiate because their rates go up by 25%

I had RCN for 7 years back when renting. Sure they aren't running a charity or anything but compared to Comcast they are a joy to deal with.

I wanted to go with RCN when I cut the chord but they don't service my street.

I cut cable about a year ago. Our Verizon bill was over $200 as well and now it is $56 for just internet. Not big sports fans, so I don't have PS Vue or anything. We just use Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Hulu. There is a ton of kids content on Netflix, so the kids don't miss Nickelodeon or Disney.
We got this antenna from Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. It is mounted in the attic. We get a surprising amount of local channels and the reception is very good. Seriously, I don't regret getting rid of cable.

I cut the cord 3, maybe 4 years ago. Haven't missed It at all.

We use HD over-the-air antenna's for the basics, but to be honest, rarely watch it. I mostly use it for football. I have used some of those cheap $25 amazon antenna's with good luck, but after buying a house, but a bigger antenna up in the attic and dropped a cable to a few TV's. I'm getting maybe 25 channels this way, and def got the basics covered like 4,5 7, 25, etc.

As for internet, we are paying $50/month with Comcast. I bought my own router/modem.

We share services with other family members and just share accounts. We use our in-law's Amazon account, and SIL's Netflix account. I've also signed up for Vue from time to time and used it to watch HBO a couple times to catch a series (they did free trials here and there) and I have no complaints with it.

TV watching has actually dropped....maybe 2-3 hours a week for me and the wife. The kids get a show on Netflix for 30 mins a day as a treat before bed. Other than that, the TV is off.

Thanks all, this has been really helpful! We aren't big TV watchers, either, and I'm pretty strict with screen time for the kids, so I don't think we're going to miss FIOS. That being said, I still wanted a DVR service to record a few things on my most-watched channels (Bravo, HGTV, Nat Geo, etc.), so Playstation Vue will take care of that. The only remaining barrier was the local channels and Playstation Vue does have streaming NBC and CBS, but I still need Fox, so I'll either get an antennae to watch Fox or I can try accessing it through the app.

Good to hear that others have had a good experience cutting the cord. I've put it off for a long time because it's easier to just pay the bill rather than spend time and energy making the switch, but it just feels like I'm pouring money down the drain each month.

wror, why is vue the worst?

A lot of the streaming providers offer a DVR. I know Sling does. I think Hulu does as well.

Sling doesn't have Bravo, so it didn't make the cut. Hulu has a DVR, but you have to pay an extra $15/month if you want to skip commercials (on top of the $40 base price), so that kicks it out of the "cheap streaming options" bucket.
