The area is wonderful and quite safe, but pretty quiet. There isn't a whole lot going on.
Maybe others can point out pockets of nightlife/music life in the area?
Lanesborough is probably an hour or so from Albany, so you may want to inch closer to NY state so you can be within reach of Albany on a weekend night.
Or if you go to more to the Eastern side, you might approach some of the bigger towns in Central Mass.
