Brockton is a downtrodden former mill city. It has nice family neighborhoods and not so nice ones. The downtown is not what I would consider safe, especially for a young woman.
Hyannis has been called 'Brockton-By-The-Sea" for years. It has multi family low income housing with high crime in a small area that tarnishes the city much more than it should. That said, Cape traffic is horrendous. Forget about making a left hand turn! When I was in my 20's and 30's I was much less bothered by it.
Not knowing anything about Framingham I would choose Plymouth. The downtown is walkable and there are plenty of things to do.

Cape traffic is only bad 3 months of the year. The other 9 months the cape is empty.

What neighborhoods near Brockton (20-25 min) would you consider safe, with decent schools/things to do? Preferably close to a train station to get into the city on days off. I wouldn't live in Brockton, just work there.

Well, Mansfield is safe and has a train that goes to Boston and Providence. Canton is safe and has Boston trains. I wouldn't look east of Brockton but rather west or even south.

If you want to live in Braintree your best commute would be to Plymouth. All traffic would be going the opposite direction. If I were you I would check Google Maps and check drive times and traffic.

If you have the Choice live in Duxbury and work in Plymouth.
