I used to drive between Chelmsford and Andover (90% same commute on I-495 as Westford to Lawrance). I used to leave around 8:50 and reach Andover by 9:05 - exctly 15 mins, of very light traffic (barring accidents/cop presence)

However, coming back around 5:30 was a different story altogether. Traffic was VERY heavy from Lawrance/Andover area all the way to Rte 3, and then it eases up somewhat. Also, at that time, the sun is directly on your eyes, so it is not easy driving.

Now maybe if you adjust your timings (leave earlier/come back later) it maybe better, but the return trip for me was not fun!

I know exactly what your saying saw a pretty scary accident there over the summer. Anyway like it was already stated traffic to work should be easy but the reverse may not be so.

A family member does the drive from Andover (next to Lawrence) to Westford each day, down 495. She runs into the occasional "blockage" from something like a truck tipping over (or a bunch of Christmas trees falling off the truck transporting them), but she's comfortable enough with the commute. (She did make it a point to get a good cell phone when her company moved to Westford.)

The commute doesn't take anywhere near an hour (under normal circumstances), and there are always exits to take if anything develops with the car.
