Like dash cams and body cams? Those are things cops have fought and pushed for by citizen activists that shape political trends. They didn't happen in a vacuum.

Photos and videos made my citizens that have been shared on social media have been hugely influential. Much of the outcry about cops gunning done citizens in cold blood would have been lied about and swept up under the rug without these people holding cops accountable.

We are all thankful for their efforts to try seek justice and end the abuse. I am thankful to all citizen activists for their tremendous efforts.

That's not entirely what I was speaking of (I was going more towards better record keeping, data tracking and demand for greater tax $ accountability), but you couldn't be more wrong. While there might have been an initial resistance (I mean who likes having Big Brother spying in them while doing their jobs), most cops have found them to work in their favor way more often than not. Dash cams and body cams rarely lie. Unlike news reporting and Youtube, they actually show the full story from start to finish. Where the news and social media always "conveniently" omits the part where the suspect is threatening the cop with a weapon, the body cam will show it all. This is often what saves the officer when court day comes.

What was I saying about the Ferguson Effect again"?

It's a shame how those who are already putting their lives on the line every time they head out to work (and unfortunately off the job as well sometimes), they have to deal with nonsense like this. Wonderful world it is.

Case in point, the latest incident in Minnesota. People claim unarmed man was gunned down by cops. Cops release body cam footage..and wouldn't ya know it? A gun in his hand.

Which is how 9.9/10 of these stories turn out. Rather than hold the punches until the actual facts develop, media will side with the thug(s)' account and cause sometimes irreversible damage. When the truth comes out, they rarely acknowledge their F'up and if they do it's a half arse excuse of a correction. Meanwhile, cops are getting shot on a daily basis.

I am convinced social media, and people's fascination with video taping everything is the literal downfall of society. The mob mentality rules.. Police doing their jobs should not be scrutinized solely based on the color of the police vs. civilian. This is what it has turned into. Same with the Harvard woman who got fired for that video of asking a woman if she lived in affordable housing. Big deal. This stuff happens every day, I get it ... she is a rotten human being. But the mob internet PC social media monster takes this and runs until it explodes. Grow up. these conversations happen on a daily basis. It's a sad world.

Maybe these horrible things will happen less if people know they're going to be called out on them and there will be repercussions for their being horrible people. You can't change horrible people from being horrible people, but perhaps you can reduce them making other people's lives worse.

Maybe some cops will think twice before pulling a trigger if they realize they might be recorded. That is a benefit to both body and dash cams, and social media. Less shooting of people.

That Minneapolis recent one. He was running away. Not aiming a gun. They shot a man running away. No immediate threat to anyone. It's amazing they won't be charged. It's a killing. I thought it is ok for people to have guns, 2nd amendment and all, or is that only for certain people? Heck, people using weapons took over a government facility and had and armed standoff and that's perfectly ok and didn't warrant cops using force... heck, it received praise from right wingers.... cause... hmmn, I wonder what the difference is...

Thankfully they charged a cop in Minnesota for murder of that Australian woman.

If that woman didn't livestream during the shooting of Philando Castile, the cop wouldn't have been charged with manslaughter.

.

Completely untrue. Cops and their unions fought them at every single turn. They've only recently started coming around to them to see the protection they can provide for cops. That is VERY recent. When they first were proposed, they were almost uniformly imposed. This includes the Boston Police who sued to stop the program.

You are just flat out incorrect.

You mean a hero saved society from a vicious criminal, right.

More people die every year commuting to their metro-Boston cubicle than are killed on duty as policemen. Why are the police heroes but the cubicle trolls who die in a fiery death on the highway not?

Yes. That is the exact narrative I can't wrap my mind around. They are not only suppose to be our equals, but they are suppose to be here to protect and serve us, yet when one of them dies there is a 500 cruiser procession and flags for 60 counties are at 1/2 mass for a week..

I could take one MBTA ride and video tape 20 min worth of disgusting horrible things coming from people.. If it does not fit the white vs. black, Straight vs. gay, Man vs. women, everyone hates trump narrative nobody cares. there is no hungry mob. Theres a market for this stuff.
