Actually they won't be coming to your piddly case. Like most law firms that advertise on TV, they work with affiliates - free agents - in the states they aren't licensed in. In Boston, one of their affiliates is Jan Schlichtman of A Civil Action fame and of course they trot out Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as shill for them.

The other thing to keep in mind is what if this happened just two months later? Imagine everyone that would have been home for Thanksgiving. If it was four or more how much longer could the response had taken had there been feet of snow?

A town employee digging/repaving the road bumped a gas line. Totally different then the Merrimack Valley incident, and only newsworthy because of the tragedy that occurred a week earlier. I think those types of minor gas leaks are common.

Common and not as dangerous. The gas disperses easily in the air and usually stays below the min concentration level needed to ignite. There is still cause for concern and precautious must be taken so i'm not trying to trivialize the danger, but field leaks are pretty common and not always fixed right away.

Gas gets very dangerous in a confined space like a house or a manhole where the concentration level can increase to the point where it will ignite/explode.

In my workplace, we deal with hydrogen lines as a process gas. As you can imagine, we have safety systems in place with LEL (lower explosive limit) alarms strategically placed. If hydrogen escapes a line and is detected, the LEL activates and shuts down the gas at it's source stopping the leak (eventually). I often wondered why such devices weren't common in home use? Really wouldn't be that hard to implement a shutoff on the main line coming in tied to several detectors along the area where the gas line and appliances are in use. Commercially the systems are expensive, but if scaled down for residential use and produced on a mass scale, I could see it being marketable.

Hmm...maybe I should open up a side gig.

Why is this all of a sudden becoming common? I don't recall this happening in the past.

Starting to wonder if it isn't on purpose. I do see that National Grid is in a dispute with striking workers. Now they are making the argument that the gov't should get involved.

Just so glad I don't have gas and will never get it in the future.

Twice does not make it common.

I'm going to say that it has probably happened in the past at a smaller scale and because of the size of the problem in MV, it's going to be reported regularly.
