Yes, there's several of them. It depends how much you want to spend.

There are plenty good towns there, more so in Plymouth than Bristol County. The thing is, in the context of this thread, none of their lesser cities or towns are up and coming.

Those areas are underrepresented on this forum, but yes many people live there! Look Hanover, Norwell, Marshfield, Pembroke...

I just browsed this whole thread and was somewhat shocked (although kind of not seeing as the area as a whole doesn't get any love) but talk of affordable towns and nothing southcoast at all. Is it that bad that none of it is considered "up and coming"?

Just because a place isn't "up and coming", doesn't make it not nice. Fall River and New Bedford are a little rough, always have been. Wareham isn't great. The rest is totally fine, again nothing new.

Completely agree. I guess I just found it funny when talk of some of the average homes in some of the "affordable towns" in this thread could buy you a really nice place or multiple houses in some areas of the south coast.

The area just seems to totally avoid the radar, and while it's kind of nice, it also doesn't see the benefits of being on the radar.

I think Somerset may possibly be on the brink of something good. Since the Brayton Point Power plant is being demolished, there is (IMO) huge potential depending on what ends up being developed there. I know they are toting something offshore wind related but with close to 300 acres I would think some sort of business park being set up rather than just a single employer, ie: diversified taxes and jobs. Only time will tell I suppose.

It's off the radar because unlike parts of Central Mass. or Southern NH, it's not really commutable to Boston. Hopefully you are right and that something is developed there in Somerset other than the offshore wind thing.

It's all relative. Stow is more affordable than neighboring Sudbury and Boxborough and offers a relatively easy commute to Rt. 128 by way of Rt.117.

Speaking of affordable, a 760 sq ft condo unit is up for sale right now for $215,000 through the city of Cambridge's affordable home buying program. Go on the city's website to see if you qualify if interested.

Nobody is going to move 6-figure jobs to Somerset. The labor force isn't skilled enough. 23% with college education. On the other side of the world's longest bridge to Portugal (old joke), 14.4% have a college education. Seekonk and Swansea have more of the Providence bedroom town effect. The residents are better educated and earn more. The school systems are better.
