Falmouth, Ma communities
Hello, I want to find out about the different areas of Falmouth. I am looking into buying a small cottage / vacation place there. We are a family of four with 2 active boys ages 9 & 11. I would prefer to be within walking distance of a salt water beach and town, is that possible in this area? I have been enjoying The Cape since I moved here, and have spent the majority of my time in Chatham and South Dennis. I live off cape in Southeastern Ma and want to be within an hours drive. Thanks GPH

Hi...If you want to be within walking distances, there are many places....Maravista area,(there is a school at the end of Maravist) Town Beach side...very pretty.....West Falmouth...
I suggest you contact Real Estate or just take a ride in the area. SO many beautiful places in Falmouth.

I grew up in Falmouth Heights. I had a great childhood...beached it all summer. That beach hosts the finish line to the road race, and the fireworks on the 4th. Always active and fun. There's a pub there now, and the general "party atmosphere" has calmed down since the Brother's 4 and Casino are gone.
The area is getting kind of elderly now though. They've priced younger people out.
West Falmouth is in the same boat, but it's beautiful and has a great choppy beach there.
Best of luck to you.

North Falmouth and Falmouth Heights are very nice areas. If you're looking to be within walking distance to downtown Falmouth and also the beach that may be a problem. I'm not sure you can get the best of both worlds in regards to being within walking distance to both. East Falmouth is alright and you're not far from downtown and the water. I absolutely love Chatham. I'm a big fan of the Lower and Outer Cape. To me that is true Cape Cod. The Upper Cape and a good portion of the Mid Cape are year round areas and I don't get the feeling I'm on Cape Cod until I hit Yarmouth and areas of Barnstable. I'm surprised you wouldn't want to buy a place in Chatham or Dennis since you spend a lot of time there.

Thanks for all the replys out there. I also love Chatham but do not enjoy the summer traffic to get down there. I live about 20 minutes from the Bourne bridge and do not want to travel too far. Looks like a little road trip is in order to check out Falmouth.

You're going to have to deal with traffic in Falmouth as well. But I agree, you won't have to deal with Route 6 on weekends. Swap Day is Saturday and the traffic leaving the Cape is always insane. Falmouth is a nice town. My preference has always been the Lower and Outer Cape. To me it's worth dealing with the traffic.

I like Orleans and Chatham too...but it's very busy in the summer.
It's a definite bonus to go over the Bourne bridge...6 is tough on a Friday evening or a Sunday afternoon.
I walked to the town center all the time from the Heights...it's not too bad. Plus you have the Island Queen right there to go over to Martha's Vineyard for the day (30 minutes out of Falmouth...can't hate that).
I moved to Maine to escape the Cape's traffic and tourism...but I still love the Cape.

I would say Falmouth is much busier than Chatham or Orleans in the summer because it is a much larger town with many more residents and tourists in the on and off seasons.
In all honesty, there is usually no more than a 2 mile backup on a Friday night. Sunday afternoons can be rough on both Route 6 and Route 28 leaving the Cape. I would say Saturday afternoon's are the worse leaving the Cape going over the Sagamore Bridge because it's Swap Day.
Wow, I wasn't aware you could walk to town from Falmouth Heights.
I lived on the Cape for 8 years but the main reason I left was due to the fact there were no good job opportunities or healthy social life on a year round basis for a well educated, white collared, professional.
