You can currently fire someone for almost any reason. In fact, it’s easier to just list the reasons you can’t fire someone. I don’t think firing someone for casual marijuana use always makes sense, but I also don’t think those users deserve special protection that people who eat meat (or don’t eat meat) or are fat don’t currently have.

My only issue is a DUI law where some cop can arbitrarily decide to vampire a blood sample out of my arm because I’ve been doing laps in a chlorinated swimming pool. I got DUI road locked once 7 or 8 years ago and got the “your eyes are red”. They did a field sobriety test and made me blow in the machine. 0.00. You know the blood test implied consent law is going to be abused.

Yes but I can point you to endless amount of bars with huge parking lots where people sit and get plastered then drive home. This is fairly common. I can't remember ever being worried about a couple dozen people on weed all pouring out of somewhere to operate automobiles.

Give it time. Alcohol has been a problem for decades because it is acceptable to go to a bar, have a few and drive home. I don't have a problem with people consuming marijuana responsibly but giving the general public a legal means to dull their senses there will be some that drive under the influence and it won't end well.

We all know that driving impaired drugged, drunk or distracted with our phones and other gadgets is not responsible but guess what there are accidents every single day because people still do it.

Our elected are putting to much faith in the public to do the right thing and now preventing an employer from firing someone for using marijuana is actually elevating the drug user while forcing people that do not imbibe to pick up the slack.

Boy the fear mongers are alive on this thread. Ok, so here are the facts:

There is a swab test that can tell if you cannabis use was recent. It can not tell if you are impaired, but this test will determine recent use, so it may take away the problem of just having cannabis by-products in your blood and actually being under the influence.

There is also the field sobriety test. This test still works whether you are high or drunk.

All the laws that apply to alcohol and driving apply to all other drugs, legal and illegal. The driving laws stress "impairment" rather than drunk or not drunk, "being under the influence", rather than high. As a result, no new driving laws need to be added once cannabis is legal.

Some states have added a law specifying a level in the blood standard, but this is completely arbitrary and has no scientific basis.

I'm much more worried about the texting person behind me rear ending my car, than I am a cannabis user, who, by the way, is already driving and has been for years.

For some reason the states that already have legalized cannabis, don't seem overly concerned. Their police are still arresting people for driving impaired, public consumption is still illegal, and teen use is down.

Im sorry... not buying it. Been around both all my life. I have seen people do some of the most disgusting, Hateful, Absurd s41t on booze. I can't recal more than maybe twice seeing someone on weed do something along those lines. They are two complete different animals, and should be treated as such.

Though field sobriety tests aren't perfect. They do have false positives. Still better than nothing though.

Anyway, I can't wait until we have safe self driving cars to the point that human drivers are out of the equation.

Seriously. I, personally don't like how I am on weed (different drugs affect different people differently), but booze is far more responsible for dangerous and stupid stuff.

I don't like how I am on booze. Especially the next day. it's the social pressure when you go out and you tell people you aren't drinking. they look at you like you are a mutant.

1) All for legalized Pot ,it's time is way over due!

2) If you're buzzed at work you should be fired , yes it's that simple.
