Default The lower, east side of Melrose

Hello again,
A number of you have already given me great perspective on Melrose, but I have another question. We are now considering a home that is in the lower east side of Melrose, couched between Main and Lebanon and just above Sylvan Street where the Pine Banks Parks is. It's seems like a quiet area, with lovely homes and a short walking distance to the downtown.

However, I'm just not as familiar with this area, as the last times we walked around Melrose we more in the Cedar Park or Highlands area.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this area: is it kid friendly, safe, etc.? It's much closer to the Malden border, so I wonder if this changes the feel of the neighborhood at all. Also, I noted that it is near the Oak Grove village. We drove by that, but it seems pretty empty. Is it expected to be a nice, revitalized area when it is finished?

I don't know, I guess I am just looking for general impressions. When we walked around the Cedar Park area, there were lots of families with young kids out and about, but I didn't get that same feeling from this lower east side...

Thanks!!

Default very nice

that's a nice area. it's not as economically high-end as other areas of melrose, but it is safe, quiet, and in my opinion under-rated. you can walk to town and train yet it feels like country. the melrose PD / Fire may relocate to that nat'l guard building next to hunt camera, fyi, which can only be good.

Default Nice areas of Melrose

I think I'd move to the Melrose Highlands area of Melrose, it is beautiful there. There are a ton of families around the Cedar Park area, that is a great part of Melrose too. Anything near to the Fells and the Commuter Rail.
