What to move!
I'd like some input on the topic of what to move, when we move, as in posessions, furnishings, collections etc...
We will be moving from ALL the way across the US and I would most likely have our belongings barged... i'm afraid with the rise in fuel that any move is going to be $$ so, with that in mind, my realtor here suggested I sell everything except my sentimental things of course
So, if you were making a HUGE move and were footing the bill yourself, what would you do?
ooops!, forgot to add that I own 1 vehicle, a 2002 Dodge Ram quad cab truck AKA gas guzzler! and I can't see selling it as its paid for.
do big ole trucks fit in with Mass folk? (I do have a disabled persons placard)

You can get a free online quote from a mobile storage company like PODS, for starters.. The gas is figured into the price. I'm not sure what you'd be looking at for such a large move... But, it's a free quote.

I am using U-Pack for my move. They quoted me just over a grand for a cube from PGH, to MA... (keeping in mind I have no idea what your moving budget is)
I'd probably be trying to cram everything into the truck, but you're going to pay for the weight in gas anyhow.

Gee, somehow I bet my post is no help to you at all. Or perhaps that's exactly what you meant by "barged"...I had hoped to see other suggestions in this thread when I logged back in.
Something I thought of.. If you have a place to ship stuff to where your destination is, you might consider shipping some of it via USPS. I have a friend in Seattle that used the postal service to ship all his books. He even got a great rate due to media mail.

Sit down, do the math, and figure out how much each option would cost. You could do U-Pack, which would work across country (we did L.A. to MA, hard to do further). Gas is expensive, but so is furniture, so figure out what you can afford. If your furniture is all cheap Wal-Mart stuff and hand-me-down couches, it's probably not worth it to move. If you've got quality furniture, I doubt the resale would cover the cost of repurchase minus moving costs.
As for huge gas guzzling trucks, they do fit in, especially in the suburbs. Lots of contractors/construction people drive them around. If you're going to be in Boston/Cambridge, you may want to reconsider a huge truck, as the roads are narrow and parking is at a premium. If you'll have a dedicated space somewhere it will be fine, especially if you can utilize public transportation to limit the amount you actually need to drive it. I don't know about disabled placards, but I'm pretty sure you'll need to get a new one for MA if you want to use MA disabled parking.
