As others have said, Weymouth has it's pros and cons.. I lived in Weymouth for 12 years after spending my first 13 in the next town over, Braintree (which has a better school system; I'm glad Braintree was my first phase). Weymouth is one of those towns where you'll have a very different experience depending on what part you live in; South Weymouth, for instance, has a very different "feel" than North Weymouth. It's a very busy town, with cars driving EVERYWHERE at all times of the day, everyday (Do these people work? They can't possibly all be out on business...). I used to work from home when I was there, so I always had a laugh with that since I was always in town. I have to say it's a very nondescript place- no culture at all; just houses and strip malls. In my own experience and in the experience of others I knew there, whether or not the locals are friendly and welcoming depends on a bit of luck; if you're in an area where most of the neighbors are a similar age as you you'll probably do well; if they're much older they'll probably keep to themselves. It's not a town for 20somethings or people with a strong individualistic or artistic bent (so don't ask me why I lived there for so long! haha). But people are individuals, so who knows. Where I used to live, all the neighbors were 50-80 or so (I was in my mid 20's), and even though I had lived in the same area for 13 years, and always waved and smiled when I saw them, they were a bit stand-offish (except for one particular neighbor, always out strolling with his walker, who was pretty nice and friendly). Weymouth is not the most open-minded of places; not the worst place around in that regard, but I wouldn't want to live there if I was a was a minority. It really makes me sad to say it (and a little angry, but I guess.. what can you do). There are also more drugs there than in the surrounding towns, but not much violent crime. The drug issue isn't very "obvious" for the most part (as it is in, say, neighboring Brockton), but I wouldn't really want to put my kids in public school there. That said, I knew other smart kids who squeezed a decent education out of the system, and I guess peer pressure is everywhere really, isn't it?
If you're looking for fun... There are numerous bars around town, but you always get the feeling that they're strictly for the regulars. I'm sure there are a few decent ones scattered here and there though. I checked out various bars around town over the years just out of curiosity, and umm.. never stayed long.. but on the upside there are quite a few restaurants (good variety of them too).
There's also a beach in North Weymouth, and.. umm.. hmm... you know what? I can't even think of anything else you'd be able to go out and do for fun in Weymouth, so that might tell you something.
