Either way, not really pertinent to the OP. The closest Metco district to St Vs is Natick.

A few districts in central Mass do do School Choice though. Auburn, Clinton, Fitchburg, Gardner, Grafton, Harvard, Leicester, Millbury, East, North, and West Brookfield, Sutton, Uxbridge, Ware, West Boylston, Worcester, Berlin/Boylston, and Spencer all accepted kids last school year.

So OP could buy in Rutland and send the kids to a minority majority district in Worcester or the almost all white Wachusset regional.
IMHO the people in Rutland are fine. Not great, not bad. I've never gotten hassled riding my bike around there - I feel there are two types of people who harass people on bikes stereotypical dumb rednecks and dumb urbanites who throw stuff out car windows. I've never seen either in Rutland

Yes, I know Metco doesn't apply to Worcester students. Just that the dilemma is the same.

This is just getting ridiculous with this racism hysteria. You’d think we’re still living in the Jim Crow era...unbelievable!

I don't think (at least I hope) the OP meant to imply that people who live there are racist. I think it was more a concern about fitting in and what would be the best environment for her kids.

My post is a figure of speech. I'm not trying to say that everyone is racist. Thank you. I can understand that OP is worried about finding a good environment for her kids.

I think OP was specifically concerned about the "Blue Lives Matter" flag in Rutland. Don't think they knew a Rutland police officer died of COVID.
