Here's how even the 'liberal' towns are racist:

Any high end deep blue town I have lived in is self-segregated along socioeconomic lines. Race has nothing to do with it. You care that your neighbors are educated white collar professionals who share your education and intellectual engagement values. You don’t particularly care about race or religion.

On the contrary, it's an awesome essay. Why do all these nice affluent towns like Southborough remain so overwhelmingly white decade after decade? The way things are run preserves the whiteness quite effectively-- large lot zoning, single-family residence-only zoning, resistance to rentals of any kind, historic preservation practices, lack of any county or regional planning with enforcement teeth, real estate practices known as steering ... And from reading forums like this year after year you see what the average Jane and Joe have to say about the cities and towns that do have nonwhite pluralities or majorities--more often than not, a smug putdown of some kind. What is it like to grow up in an affluent white town like that if you're black? These authors are telling us their experience. Time to reflect on white fragility, acknowledge the criticisms and listen up.

Because the US has low social mobility and if you are poor there is almost no way you will be able to climb the social ladder.
I know a few black families living in those towns, they all have one thing in common, they are all African/Europeans/Canadians that moved to the US as adults and they were wealthy or middle class in their country of origin.

Also, they are not overwhelmingly white, some of them have a ton of Asians living in them.

You might not care, but that is the problem.

He just explained why after you cut off his quote lol. You went out of your way to ignore obvious yet well thought out methods of segregation. Hilarious.

It’s socioeconomic segregation. Not racial segregation. I live in a socioeconomically mixed town. I can’t think of any of those in metro Boston. They used to exist. The scarcity of commutable housing has killed off the concept of a working class starter home anywhere that isn’t sketchy.
