...but since we are on Subarus.
Took my 1.8 Impreza from 130k to 260k before gifting it to a friend. Clutch was the only big expense.
Had a 2.2 Impreza for a few years that needed nothing, sold it at 205k as I was leaving town.
My 2.5 Outback was a beater that I sold for the same price I bought it after 2 years and no maintenance.
They were rock solid reliable, but boring and tinny.

I've wrenched on a few. My parents have a 2010 Outback 3.6R they bought new. No real issues with it, and I;ve done the maintenance since new (except oil changes as they just take it to dealer). Fairly easy to work on and costs are inline with any other brake job, or serpentine belt repair I've ever done on any other make. But spark plugs...holy hell. I'll take a Vee engine anyday for that job.

So I guess if I had a Subaru in the hinterlands of Massachusetts, the local mechanics would be able to handle a brake job? Good stuff to know here.

Now, sure. The Eyesight system has electronic rear brakes. You wouldn’t want to be the first rear brake job 5 years ago. The standard procedure is to put the brakes in maintenance mode via the ODB II port. You’d have to know the work-around. Like anything else, there’s a YouTube for it.
