Default Thinking about moving

OK, heres the story. My finace and I are both born and raised in MA, Hamden and Hampshire counties. We recently moved to Tennessee because of his job, but we both agree we would like to move back to MA probably the next year or so. We also both agree we want to move to a small town, we have a couple ideas. I am not too familiar with much towns besides Chicopee, Holyoke, Springfield, South Hadley, and Granby, what can I say I never really traveled outside my area. He, however, knows a little more about some towns in the Franklin county. What we are looking for is a nice small town to eventually raise children without an obscene amount of crime, friendly neighbors, and I also like the idea of getting involved with community activities. He wants somewhere close to a pond or stream, he loves to fish.

Anyone that is familiar with the area we would appreciate the help.

Where will he be working or do you need to be near a specific area. This info will help greatly. There are lots of nice small towns to raise a family with little crime and a good school system.

We haven't gotten as far as looking for a job. We don't plan on moving 'til a year or so. He is a graphic designer so it all depends where he can find a job, but I do know he wants to stay out of Boston. He is not a big city guy at all. With me I am more open. I have done jobs from waitressing to home health to file clerk. I was just looking into areas where we can base the job search around.

OK so we have narrowed it down to small towns in the Franklin county. Its close to our families but far enough away where we can still have our own lives. So any recommendations for nice small towns in the Franklin would be appreciated.

I would look in Deerfield, Whately, Conway, Sunderland or a little farther up in Northfield. All nice quiet small towns.
