There's a new Marriott on rte 9 in Hadley, between Amherst and Noho.
What area of western Mass do you want to see? Western Mass covers a huge area.

LOLL, sorry I just have to laugh at your last statement!, WM appears tiny from where i'm coming from

I'm hoping to get a feel for NOHO, greater springfield, places where I can feel safe in both enviorment and good schools for my kids.... I will have one going into HS and a 5th grader.

When you're heading north in the car, you'll see all you need to see of Springfield out the right side car window. You might check out the Northampton Inn on King St.

When I used to do the outdoor antique show at Brimfield, my friends and I would stay at the Plantation Inn in Chicopee, MA. It's right at exit 6 off the Mass Pike. It's cheap and basic.

What's wrong with the Chicopee exit? And it's very close to Springfield. And I got the impression that the O.P. was trying to keep her hotel expenses down.

I worked for Marriott and it's a pricey hotel chain. Otherwise, there aren't many around MA, but I'm a big fan of Red Roof Inns.

TripAdvisor.com is the place where real travelers tell their real experiences with hotels, restaurants, cities, attractions, etc. everywhere.
This link will open on the MA overview page; in the Search bar at left, just type in (city) MA and all the accommodations there will come up -- you can their compare prices, service, etc.
