Default Recommendations needed for beaches near Plymouth

Considering building in The Pinehills and we are looking for beach recommendations within an hour's drive. We saw Plymouth Beach but we are looking for something wider and less rocky - just a place to spend a nice day. Let us know your favorites and your parking recommendations. Thanks.

White Horse Beach, just north of the Cape Cod Canal, is a nice state park. Marshfield's and Duxbury's beaches are also good.

Horseneck Beach, I believe it's in Westport. Down near Buzzards' Bay. The water is warm (well, warm for Massachusetts, anyway), gets some surf. It's wide and sandy. Last time I was there (2004), it cost $7 to park all day.

Goyguy, White Horse is NOT a State Park. I know, I live there. The State Park is off of exit 3 on Rt. 3. They have oodles of ponds in there but no ocean! White Horse is off of exit 4. Exit 3 also but in the opposite direction of the State Forest.

White Horse is a pretty good beach, bberlan. Parking is pretty tough though. If you don't get here early and park along Taylor Ave., you need to park along the side streets and walk a minute or two to the beach. There is a place to pay and park on Taylor Ave. I think it is still in business. No signs up yet this year so I'll keep an eye out and let you know. If you are thinking of building down the Pine Hills, have you gone down White Horse yet? Have you become familiar with the layout of Manomet yet?

Thanks. We did drive all around White Horse - it looked different from the beaches we are familiar with at the Jersey Shore - I guess we were looking for something sandy rather than rocky. We'll definitely check it out as the season starts - it was a rainy day and not the best time to view any beach on our last trip!

Duxbury beach is incredibly long and sandy

I hear good things about White Horse too and most of the cape is within an hour from Plymouth

Default beaches

Hi bberlan,

I grew up on White Horse and you are right that it is rather rocky and not always the cleanest. I still love it but because it's "home". Scusset beach in Sagamore is a nice beach (very large, bathrooms and snack stand, sandy beach, jettee). It is the exit before the Sagamore Bridge and not far from Pine Hills at all. You do have to pay to park if you don't live in that town, but I can't recall how much (probably $10).

Smile Beaches

If you live move to Pinehills you can visit Scussett Beach in Sagamore there is a parking fee I think it is still around $8 - It is a nice beach and right next to the cape cod canal which is great for walking, bike riding, boat watching, or fishing - Another beach i go to is Duxbury Beach in Duxbury you can also pay a parking fee or can buy a yearly permit to drive onto the beach it costs $260 at duxbury beach you can also buy a clamming permit if you are into digging your own clams - Nauset beach in orleans is also a beautiful beach but tends to have a bit of an undertoe and isn't the greatest for young children but is absoultely beautiful!!

Hope you find one you like!!
