Smile Nice Weddings for Frugal People :)

A wedding that originally started out as bride, groom and immediate family has expanding to about 30/40 people. We don't have a lot of money and while we have found some beautiful B & B's and some fancy venues - we can't help to think there are some small and just as nice parks or gardens out there that won't cost as much, possibly along the coast and preferably with a nice restaurant nearby for a small reception. Any ideas???

Default Wedding location--try Plymouth

Hi,
There's a lovely park in the town of Plymouth, MA where many people get married; you need to apply for a permit but it's not much money.

In the surrounding area, within walking distance or within short driving distance, are a lot of reasonably priced restaurants as well. I have not eaten in any of those restaurants so honestly don't know which are better than others though...you can look for reviews on chowhound.com or yelp.com.

Good luck!

The Seamen's Bethel in New Bedford is a lovely historical chapel, and just the right size for a small wedding party. There are some great restaurants nearby, and the New Bedford waterfront has a lot to interest visitors.

I was married there, and people still talk about the unique setting. We had our post-wedding party in the hall of a local Portuguese church, with local musicians and great Portuguese food from a local restaurant. We wanted something different, and we were so happy with how everything turned out.
It was a wonderful day, and reasonably priced.

Best wishes to you!

jllang- do they allow chairs to be set up at that ark in Plymouth?

To the OP we are also looking for the same thing you are! People keep suggesting the Plymouth park but we arent sure where it is.

Hello,
To the OP and dakcp2001...The park in Plymouth is called Brewster Gardens. Its right on the waterfront(Water Street) Its a beautiful setting. The town has actually just recently finished doing some work in the park. They added a nice arbor type entrance as well. There is a a small brook(Town Brook) that runs through the area.

I know in past you could set up chairs. Things may have changed. I can find out tomorrow if you like. I live and work in Plymouth.

I went to a wedding at Brewster Gardens. Reception followed under a tent at the East Bay Grille down the street. Lovely

Hello,
Here's what I found out.
Brewster Gardens hiolds 110 wedding ceremonies a year. A permit is needed with as much advanced notice as possible. Unfortunately chairs can not be set up(no tents, or tables either). Exceptions will be made for an elderly person or a someone with physical impairments.

Here is the number to reach the parks department in Plymouth. 508-830-4907 extension 6.

As Cathy mentioned...having a reception at East Bay Grille under their tent is great. Its a nice restaurant right on the ocean. The tent area is grass with lots of parking and ocean views. Its right down the street from Brewster gardens...3 minutes tops. East Bay 508-746-9751
