Snallygaster is on a distinguished road
Look at Groveland , which is in the northeastern part of the state- a true New England hamlet, on the banks of the Merrimac river.
There is also nearby West Newbury, Boxford and Georgetown

QUOTE.
I don't recommend Massachusetts for anyone unless they absolutely love socialism. Nuff said.

LOL, well it's true MA is a very liberal state, and we have the finest universities and hospitals in the country-as well as the largest concentration and number of colleges.
Of course if you are a radical right wing Republican, you might not like it.

Burlington is hardly a small town. Isn't it the biggest city in Vermont? Lots of crunchy granola college-town things. Beautiful setting, not cheap, and cold. (I think cold is good...) The wind off the huge lake there is... cold.
I second the thought of a small town in southern NH. I personally like Hollis, and love Peterborough (the setting for "Our Town," I think). If you don't have to drive east from Pborough every day for work (the mountain, the winter) it can't be beat for a cultural, civilized, artsy town for families and other configurations. Lots of great classical music there. The McDowell artist colony is there. The architecture is wonderful. Lovely little downtown. (I haven't lived there, but friends did, and I saw the pluses to the town).

Seeing that Noodle's post was made back on 1-2-2007, I hardly think it qualifies for "current campaign rhetoric". I guess Massachusetts was considered a socialist state way before the side-show circus that the 2008 Election has become...

BTW, the original post is from New Years Day, 2007. I often wonder how in the world a nearly 2-year old post gets resurrected

I wouldn't mind seeing seeing an adjustment in the software that would automatically close a thread that hasn't had any replies in 6 months. Especially ones where someone is enquiring about relocation. The Administrator has added an icon to indicate an old thread that has been revived: http://www.city-data.com/forum/about...vived-old.html
But it's easy to overlook I guess.

A. As far as I knew, this was a new post--it was right there! I don't have time to quibble over dates, unless it affects me somehow, as in needing current info.

B. The false perception of Massachusetts as being Socialist HAS been around for a long time; however, I was merely USING the current MISUSE of the term in this campaign as an example, not claiming that the misconception only arose from it, or recently!
