Shaunna O'Connell won her re-election bid to be mayor of Taunton in November. Her new term starts at the beginning of the year.

But it looks like she wants a new job already.

With Charlie Baker and Karyn Polito not running, it'll be interesting to see if she ends up going for it.

Maybe Frank Baker should run, he seems like a reasonable guy. I mean, if a Twitter meltdown queen councilcritter made it all the way to DC I don't see why he shouldn't.

Who is Shaunna O'Connell? I'm asking from the perspective of everyone else in Massachusetts not from Taunton and do not always follow local politics.

She was a state rep who won her seat running against a very arrogant opponent who wanted to "rip apart child rape victims" or something like that. Later, she became the Mayor of Taunton so she has administrative experience. She's a good campaigner but might be a little late joining the race.

That is good to know. Past experience in state government is very important. Having said that, her name definitely is not known as widely as say Maura Healey so she will have to campaign rigorously to get her name out there. I think a lot of state and local politicians were holding back on announcing their runs for fear that they simply did not stand a chance against Baker/Polito. Alas, at times public elections have devolved into popularity contests. One might know who Bob Kraft is but does the same person know who their local state senator and representative is much less the senator and rep. from a district over the other side of the state?

She's been mayor for 2 years, won re-election in November, and hasn't yet started her second term. Is that enough administrative experience to run the state?

I still believe that Lyons will ensure that Diehl is the nominee as he has no use for any candidate on the primary ballot that isn't a Trumper.

On another note, I wonder if our resident Wu hater will accuse O'Connell of using her current office as a stepping stone.
