HAHA........ Well you'd HATE Marthas Vinyard then. That's where all the hippies are with their hacky sacs, dreadlocks and drum circles. It makes Nantucket look like a young republicans convention.

This whole thread is a total joke. Most of the people making comments on "Nantucket People" either know one person who worked on Nantucket for the summer or summer there and are making broad generalizations based on the millionaires from Fairfield County that crowd Nantucket during the Summer. Real "Nantucket People" are natives that range from baby-boomer hippies that came to Nantucket in the 70's because it was chill and deserted to people that love to hunt deer, drive there F-250, and slay bass.

The whole point is that the "new money" summer people and tourists ruined a beautiful island.

The tourists and summer "laborers" try to emulate those for whom they are employed and give the island a bad name.

the real Nantucket were people who always lived there and did work there. Now, the younger people noway can stay there or on cape cod. The Island you take the ferry or fly to leave. With Gas as it is? Also the price of food? It is a nice place to visit, to live, you need money, lots.

I spent a summer on Nantucket at the hospital. I found the natives and the people I worked with to be fantastic, very friendly. I found that there were two types of "halves" on Nantucket. The ones who have long since made it- worth in the upper millions to billions and the ones who were up and coming six figures to lower millions. Guess who were the nicest and who were the rudest. (If you guessed billionaires = nice you are correct.) My wife got into it with a guy at the Pops on Nantucket concert who actually threw a chicken bone at her. She didn't dare tell me about it until long afterward. I guarantee I would have thrown sand in his face If I knew about that one. One of my mosty lasting memories of Nantucket was meeting a couple of the Grandgrace brothers who were were cab drivers on the island. One drove a Cadillac and the other drove a Continental. They just believed in driving their passengers in style. I wonder if they are still alive? I read that Toppy Topham died. Was sorry to read that. I also met Pierre Rinfret who ran for governor here in NY. He was a nice guy. I used to e-mail him on his website.

Default No, No, Nantucket

I guess I won't be going to Nantucket. I bought my sunglasses at Ocean State Job Lot.

I tended to stay away from the tourists. I dislike how they talk down to you as if you were a slave or some other servant.

Snobs, wannabes, they're everywhere. You just have to look, listen and laugh at how ridiculous it all is.
