I came to MA from south Jersey in 1974, have left three times for daydreams, have returned three times.
I guess, given my generation, I don't see anything wrong with people moving. I mean, it's an adventure in living, to move to another place and make a life there. (Disclaimer- I'd never live in south Jersey again without a large weapon aimed at my head).
The winters here are no big deal, but then, I've been told that I have a high tolerance. I loathe summers- way too sticky. I'd move somewhere colder/dryer if I had a good bunch of reasons, but not anywhere with more humidity.
When I wondered if I could make it economically here (1987), I decided I'd consider Minneapolis. Then decided that the amount of money I should save to go there would be a down payment on a tiny condo, so stayed here.
I sure don't see moving somewhere stickier and less liberal for a big house in a sprawl suburb. But that does work well for some people, I guess. I certainly know people who are aiming at North Carolina for housing and weather.

MA_brnNrsd is on a distinguished road
My finace and I recently moved to TN and we miss MA, we both were born and raised there. Moved down to TN because of his job. It sounded great at first, nice change we both needed in our lives. We thought it would be a great move on our parts. We jumped on it cause his company paid all moving expenses, so we saw it as a opportunity to try it elsewhere. We are definitely both thankful we rented first before we bought. While it can be cheaper for some things down here, it's NO MA. We both agree now we can't wait til we have the opportunity to move back to MA. I have had some comments from a couple people I met that said how us "northerners" tend to be very straight forward, but like others have said here, I would rather know what people really think of me then have fake friends.

True True!! As crazy as people call me for wanting to move to MA I understand wanting to go somewhere new. But I no longer think it will solve my problems without creating others. There are pro's and con's for every place. I'm just sick of the west, and want what they don't offer. I'm sure there are a lot of people sick of MA for the same kind of things. I just always feel the need to warn people about what I dislike, we all do, but it probably wasn't neccessary. lol

I also don't see this situation as a sad one, it just shows that some ppl. from here are open-minded enough to get out of their hometowns & experience other places too. Boston is a pretty good city, but I would also like someday to be able to try new environments, to find the right fit- which I think is different for everyone.
