Before I moved, I contrasted North Adams with Boston, and found that the records kept by the US Weather Service show the average temperature to be a few degrees colder, but precipitation is about the same. North Adams gets snow earlier because we don't have an ocean to moderate the temps. OTOH, we warm up a lot faster in the Spring (not this year, though) since there is no raw 50 degree Seabreeze in June which you get in coastal Mass.
A few miles up Florida mountain or in Clarksburg, it gets colder and snowier. I am in the valley at about 550' above sea level. The mountains around here are 2000-3600'.
